Last week, I completed my 33rd round trip around the sun. Such things call for small celebrations around these parts. When I got home from work, I discovered that N hid gifts for me around the house. One was this commissioned piece from local vegan artist Kenn Twofour. I’ve always admired his work when we see it around town and had mentioned to N that it would be cool to get the word “vegan” done by him. It is all sorts of awesome. The cookbook shelf is its temporary home until we find a good place to hang it.
For dinner, we ate at Cafe Sunflower. We started with the vegan nacho tapas covered in chili, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and jalapeños. Nom!
N continued with the Mexican theme and had soy chicken enchiladas with salsa and cheese. I had his leftovers the next day
I ordered the handmade ravioli stuffed with kaboacha squash, spinach, grilled vegetable and tofu ricotta and served with roasted shallot marinara, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes and green beans.
And for dessert, we shared a slice of strawberry cake.
The gifts from N, the dinner and birthday wishes from friends and family already made me feel all special and loved. But my pa also got me this equation cup speaking to my inner nerd and N’s parents got me a book on digital food photography.
And to top it all off, I also received $50 gift cards to the movies in the mail the next day.
It was the perfect quiet celebration for this introvert and I’m looking forward to what this next trip around that flaming ball of plasma has in store for me!
